Pennsylvania Income Tax Calculator (2026)
Estimate your 2026 Pennsylvania state income tax — a flat 3.07% on all income, plus your local Earned Income Tax (EIT). No sign-up, no cost.
Estimate Your PA Tax
Most PA municipalities levy a local Earned Income Tax averaging ~1%. Enter your local rate, or 0 if none applies.
PA allows no standard deduction and no personal exemptions, so state tax applies to your full gross income. Local EIT is computed on the same income base. Estimates only — your actual return may differ.
How Pennsylvania Income Tax Works
Pennsylvania keeps things simple — and unforgiving. The state levies a flat 3.07% on taxable income, with no standard deduction and no personal exemptions. Unlike the federal return or most other states, there is nothing to subtract before the rate applies: for most wage earners, your PA taxable income is simply your gross income.
- One flat rate: 3.07%. Every dollar of taxable income is taxed at 3.07% — no brackets, no marginal-rate math. Your marginal rate and your effective rate are the same.
- No deductions, no exemptions. PA does not offer a standard deduction, and there are no personal or dependent exemptions to claim against the state tax.
- Eight income classes. Pennsylvania taxes income in eight separate classes (compensation, interest, dividends, net gains from property, rents, royalties, estates/trusts, gambling). Losses in one class cannot offset gains in another. For most employees, the “compensation” class — wages and salaries — is the one that matters, and this calculator models that case.
- Local Earned Income Tax (EIT). Almost every PA municipality and school district levies its own EIT on wages, averaging roughly 1% combined. Your employer usually withholds it alongside state tax. Because it is local, the rate depends on where you live and where you work — enter your combined local rate above.
Local EIT = gross income × your local EIT rate
Combined = state tax + local EIT
Worked Example: $75,000 Gross Income
Take a worker earning $75,000 with a combined local EIT rate of 1%:
| Calculation | Amount | |
|---|---|---|
| PA state tax | $75,000 × 3.07% | $2,302.50 |
| Local EIT | $75,000 × 1% | $750.00 |
| Combined total | $3,052.50 | |
| Effective combined rate | $3,052.50 ÷ $75,000 | 4.07% |
The local tax adds nearly a third on top of the state bill — which is why Pennsylvanians should always think of the two together. Set the EIT field to your actual local rate for an accurate picture.
