YouTube Watch Time Calculator (2026)
How far are you from monetization? Enter your current public watch hours, your average view duration, and your daily views to see exactly how many views you still need — and the date you will hit 4,000 hours at your current pace.
Calculate Your Path to 4,000 Watch Hours
Find this in YouTube Studio > Analytics > or the Earn page. Long-form videos only — Shorts views do not count toward the 4,000 hours.
Example: 4 minutes 30 seconds = 4.5. Find it in YouTube Studio > Analytics > Engagement.
Your channel’s average daily views on regular videos. Used to project your finish date.
Projection assumes your daily views and average view duration stay constant. Hours older than 365 days stop counting, so keep publishing — the window rolls forward every day.
How the 4,000 Watch Hours Requirement Works
To join the YouTube Partner Program and earn ad revenue, a channel needs 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 valid public watch hours in the last 12 months — or 10 million valid Shorts views in 90 days instead. Watch hours are simply the total time viewers spend watching your public long-form videos.
- Only public long-form videos count: watch time from Shorts, unlisted videos, private videos, and live streams that stay unlisted does not count toward the 4,000 hours.
- The window rolls: hours expire once they are more than 365 days old, so a channel that stops publishing can slide backwards.
- Views needed depend on view duration: at a 5-minute average view duration, each view adds 5 minutes of watch time — so 48 views equal one watch hour.
- Subscribers are separate: this calculator tracks the hours side; you also need 1,000 subscribers before you can apply.
Hours per day = daily views × average view duration ÷ 60
Days to goal = hours remaining ÷ hours per day
